OrCam – Cutting Edge Devices for the Visually Impaired
If you are blind, visually impaired, or have difficulty reading, OrCam has created innovative devices to help you read and perform many other tasks independently.
That said, we recommend that prior to making a decision on a vision aid, you contact your low vision optometrist and discuss first. There may be easier and more budget-friendly solutions available.
What Is OrCam Read?
OrCam Read is a handheld reading device for people with mild low vision, reading fatigue, and reading difficulties, including dyslexia. It has a smart camera that reads text aloud from any printed text or digital screen. OrCam Read enables users to read a book, a bill, or the print edition of the morning newspaper, and can also read from digital screens.
OrCam Read – How it Works
OrCam Read has a laser guidance system to capture full pages or screens, a block of text, or a section of text. After you select what you want to be read, the device instantly reads it aloud. It can read menus, signs, books, product labels, and screens, among other things.
The device has a smart reading feature where you can specify which parts of a page of text – all the headlines in a newspaper, for example. The OrCam Read has a bright LED light, making it easier to read in dimly lit environments.
What Is OrCam MyEye?
OrCam MyEye is a voice-activated device for people who are blind or visually impaired. The lightweight device, which attaches to almost any pair of eyeglasses, can read text from a book, smartphone screen, street sign, and from any surface. It can also be programmed to recognize faces, identify products, money notes, and colors, and tell the date and time. It can help you work more efficiently, shop on your own, and live much more independently.
OrCam MyEye – How It Works
OrCam MyEye instantly reads printed and digital text aloud from any surface with the point of a finger. The wearable technology is able to help blind and visually impaired users know what objects are around them, such as doors or chairs. You can also pose questions, such as “What is in front of me?” Once programmed, it can recognize faces. Being able to identify loved ones, friends, or co-workers can have a huge impact on those who are blind or visually impaired.
Both devices help people with a variety of needs and are suitable for all eye conditions and all levels of vision loss. While the devices will not improve your vision, you can start to enjoy reading or perhaps even play sports again.
